In the November 2020 documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, Swift and producer Jack Antonoff talk about a struggling person who is “doing [their] damn best and it’s not good enough” for the people around them.
The black and red on white look is inspired by the T shirt Swift wears when performing the song 22.
